PEEK (polyertheretherketone)
is especially recommended for electrical components where a combination
of high continuous service temperature (480°F) with very low emission
of smoke and toxic fumes on exposure to a flame is required. PEEK carries
an exceptional UL 94-V-0 flammability rating.
This thermoplastic
is extremely resistant to gamma radiation, even exceeding that of polystyrene.
The chemical resistance of PEEK is outstanding; the only common solvent
is concentrated sulfuric acid. In addition, hydrolysis resistance of PEEK
is exceptional. It can operate in steam and in pressurized water up to
480°F.
Reinforced grades
of PEEK offer improved bearing and wear characteristics, as well as enhanced
strength, impact resistance and lower coefficients of thermal expansion.
Thirty percent glass - reinforced PEEK, bearing-grade PEEK and 30% carbon-filled
PEEK are available now in addition to natural and black unmodified PEEK.
