Franplas™

Extruded MoS2 Filled Nylon

Franplas MD Nylon is a nylon and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) composition designed to improve the mechanical, thermal and bearing properties to type 6/6 nylon while maintaining its basic electrical and chemical characteristics.

Through compounding, finely divided particles impart extra lubricity to this nylon, permitting Franplas MD parts to operate with little or no lubrication. This makes Franplas MD especially suited to applications where external lubrication is impractical, contaminating or difficult to maintain. The added lubricity also contributes dramatically to component service life, making Franplas MD a very cost-efficient choice.

In addition to the advantages offered by nylon's nongalling and non-scratching characteristics, sound dampening qualities, insulating properties, resistance to oils, greases, most alkalies, solvents, and organic acids, Franplas MD also provides the "plus" properties:

Greater Wear Resistance
Franplas MD offers longer wear in many applications - frequently performing satisfactorily where unfilled nylon parts fail.
Lower Surface Friction
The addition of an internal lubricant means a lower coefficient of friction. This translates into superior performance in situations where external lubrication is undesirable or impractical.
Higher Strength and Greater Rigidity
Franplas MD delivers increased tensile and compressive strengths, and an elastic modulus increase of more than 40%. As a result, you get a part that's more resistant to deformation under load.
Improved Dimensional Stability

With a linear coefficient of thermal expansion less than 65% of natural nylon, MD parts maintain better fits and clearances, and have less tendency to seize as bearings.

Nylatron®NS

This material is a type 6/6 extruded nylon compound with special additives offering superior bearing properties. These nylon formulations contain solid lubricant additives which impart self-lubricating, high Pressure Velocity (PV), and superior wear resistance characteristics. In many applications superior wear resistance is delivered without either start-up or running lubrications. It is recommended for applications where, in addition to superior bearing performance, other traditional 6/6 nylon properties also are desired.

Nylatron® is a Registered Trademark of the Polymer Corp.
